Somalia | Oodkac

Somalia is one of the poorer countries in the world, with a large percentage of the population living below the poverty line, so, I really wasn’t sure what I’d find when I started looking into their cuisine. I found more recipes than I expected and a few that piqued my interest!
I chose Oodkac because it seemed to have variations that left room for me to work with what I can get my hands on. I stumbled upon a few arguments about what meat it should be made with but, since I don't like lamb, and goat and camel meat are not readily available, I went with beef.
It was relatively easy to make, it is just cubes of beef with tomatoes and onions and a few spices. I ate it over rice and it wasn’t bad, by any means, but it wasn’t particularly exciting either. I really don’t have much to say about it, it was good but not outstanding.
It was fine.
I don’t think I’ll make it again because I can make other, more flavorful meals, with essentially the same ingredients + the wide variety of spices I have in my spice cabinets.
Mine did not turn out as dark as the oodkac pictured in the link.
I don't know if that is due to a difference in the lighting or if the turmeric in my cupboard is especially colorful.
