It was difficult to find a recipe from the Solomon Islands that I could readily make with what I can find locally. I can order dried herbs and spices online but I run into problems when it comes to fresh ingredients, fish, or “exotic” produce.
This recipe called for canned tuna and other easily acquired ingredients so that made it my choice. It also gave me an excuse to try Fishwife brand tuna. I’ve been hearing great things about their products for awhile and was curious to see if it would live up to the hype. I tried some of it prior to adding it to the pan and it was good but I don’t know if it is 2-3x more expensive than other brands good.
This was easy to make. Make your noodles. Throw things in a pan and cook them. And that’s about the only good thing I can say about it because I hated the end result.
I don’t really understand why I hated it as much as I did. I like all of the ingredients in it and it isn’t a weird combo of flavors, it just really did not work for me on any level. I tried adding more chili sauce but that didn’t help. I tried adding a small amount of soy sauce and that just made it worse. I honestly don't understand why this was such a fail for me. I managed about 4 bites and I had to surrender. l ended up throwing some chicken wings in the air fryer for dinner instead.
I was too angry with it to take a picture of it but it looked like the photo on the linked site.
Would I make this again? NO!
