I didn't really have any idea what kind of food I would find as I looked into Slovakian cuisine and I ended up being pleasantly surprised by the variety I found. I have a nice little list of recipes to come back to later!
I opted to make Detvianska Nátura because it was a relatively simple recipe to make, the ingredients were, mostly, easy to acquire, and pork* was on sale. I couldn't find the specific peppers the recipe called for, so, I used Serranos. I opted to go with the fresh tomato option instead of tomato paste so my final dish is not as red as the one pictured on the linked site. Oh, I also omitted the mushrooms. Mushrooms have a texture and mouth feel that I am unable to appreciate. I don't think the changes I made fundamentally altered the recipe and hope they can be forgiven.
The most difficult part of the recipe was chopping everything up, so it was a really easy meal to prepare. You just put everything in a pan (according to recipe order), stir occasionally, and you're good.
The end result is a tomato-y pork and vegetable dish with a tangy (from the mustard) sauce. And it was really good! It was a simple and filling, but not too heavy, dinner. The flavors were lovely and fresh and bright. I really enjoyed it!
It was recommended that it be served with a potato pancake but eggs are used to prepare those and my body has decided that all eggs are bad so I served it with some hash browns and they went very well with it.
Would I make this again?
Yes!
It was quick, easy, tasty, and filling. That makes it a winner!
*_The linked recipe is shown using beef but pork is the more traditional protein.
